Dr MK Varma Memorial Prize

Dr MK Varma was a Consultant Anaesthetist at the RVI, who suddenly passed away in 2018.

A much loved consultant, pioneer and educator, following his death, thanks to the generosity of hundreds of individuals whose lives were influenced by Dr Varma, a memorial prize has been established to celebrate Excellence in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care in the North East of England, allowing those who knew and loved him, to honour his memory, and to continue his legacy.

The prize will be awarded to a Newcastle University Medical Student, or Northern Deanery Foundation Doctor who submits any audit, research or quality improvement project in one of the following areas:

  • Anaesthesia
  • Critical Care
  • Perioperative Medicine
  • Pain Medicine

Attendance and presentation of project at the prize giving day in Newcastle on Tuesday 17th September 2019 is a mandatory component of the application process.

There will be a cash prize of £200 for the winner.
