4th December, 2017., 7:00pm - 9:00pm

NSACC have joined forces with the Newcastle Emergency Medicine Society to bring a night of Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine!

Join us for a talk by Dr Chris Johnson – Anaesthetics Registrar, Army Reservist and Great North Air Ambulance Medic – on life as a pre-hospital emergency medic!

Following the talk, NSACC will be teaching some essential clinical skills for Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine:

  • IO Access – Intraosseous infusion is the process of injecting directly into the bone! Used in situations where IV access is not available or possible, we’ll be teaching you the sites that you can use, and how to use an IO Gun, to drill a needle into the bone
  • Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT) – in the event of catastrophic haemorrhage, a CAT can be used to stop the loss of blood from an injured limb
  • C-Spine Immobilisation – in the event of a ?fractured C-spine the aim is to move the head and neck as little as possible to prevent further damage – we’ll be teaching you how to immobilise a patient and transfer them as safely as possible

NEMSOC will also be running a simulation session – can you put what you’ve learnt in to practice?

This is a members only event – you MUST be a member of either NSACC or NEMSOC to attend this event – remember you can sign up at any time on the NUSU website!
