Visiting Mars: Trauma Care From Trafalgar To The Stars
The evening started with an excellent lecture by Dr Ian Nesbitt, a consultant in Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the Freeman Hospital. Dr Nesbitt spoke about the management of trauma from the Battle of Trafalgar to recent times. He explained how military medicine has lead to advancements in civilian trauma care, and looked forward to what the future holds in this interesting field.
Careers in Anaesthetics
Dr Gary Lear is a consultant in Anaesthetics at Sunderland Royal Hospital, and is the Head of School for the Northern School of Anaesthesia and ICM. He provided an insight into career pathways available in these specialties and answered questions from the audience.
Clinical Skills Tutorial
Dr Karuna Kotur, a consultant Anaesthetist at the Freeman Hospital, and her colleagues provided an interactive simulation of the critically ill patient. Learning points included recognition of the critically ill patient, the ABC approach to resuscitation and when to call the anaesthetist/intensivist.
